IA. There are some very famous fics that I really really like, but the "OMG THIS IS A MUST-READ YOU NEED TO READ THIS TO BE A REAL FAN IT IS THE FIC AGAINST WHICH EVERYTHING ELSE IS MEASURED AGAINST" stuff really, really bugs me because um, no, not necessarily, not for everyone.

Somewhat less true for really old fics in really old fandoms that actually did have an undeniable amount of influence over how the fandom developed, but even then it's annoyingly limiting.
