I'm trolling because I'm hoping that people will wait until we actually have facts about the other school shooting before turning it into a political circlejerk.

I'm trolling because I hated the fact that the narrative around the UCSB shooter was already being formed before we even knew the victims names.

I'm trolling because the fact that four people died was ignored because it didn't fit the story.

Yes, if he had succeeded (and thank whatever deity you believe in that he didn't) we'd be having a completely different conversation.

But he didn't.

And yet the people that didn't get killed are more important than the men who did. Funny that.

Except you're ignoring the big flashing red sign. They were killed BECAUSE he hated women. They were killed during his perceived 'retribution' towards women. I hate the train of thought that misogyny only effects women, because it doesn't. It effects men as well. He didn't just want to kill people, he wanted to kill women and the men who got to have sex with them. The root of all this was his misogyny.

No. You lose all credibility with that statement. Anything that comes after is null and void because trolling is NOT an appropriate way to participate in a conversation.

Also, way to go completely erasing the shooter's motives and intentions to make it seem like he's "just another crazy dude". You can cover your eyes and scream "lalala" all you want but he LITERALLY DETAILED HIS HATRED OF WOMEN AND PLANS TO KILL THEM. If that isn't good enough for you then you are incapable of reasoning.

I think there is a huge miscommunication going on, here.

His motives were rooted in misogyny. The narrative around him correctly reflects the fact that he wanted and planned to kill women and the men who sleep with them.

That does not and should not erase the fact that four of those who were killed were men. The fact that they lost their lives does matter. I don't think anyone is trying to dispute that, and I think that you're erroneously conflating the discussion of his drives and plans with a lack of respect for his actual victims.

The bottom line is this: yes, it was wrong for people to jump to conclusions about who was killed; yes, we should care about the actual victims of the shooting; and yes, he failed to carry out his plans. But he still did what he did out of a profound and twisted hatred for women, and that matters and is worth talking about.
