Is this the fic: Angel Saga. The other DMC fics by that author is pretty good, too, especially if you're into Sparda/Eva. Most of the rest of my recs are classic DMC, but Dante/Vergil or Dante/Trish.

It seems right! But at the same time there's bits I read of this that don't seem to quite match with what little I read? Even if it's not the original fic, if it's good it's good, so thank you!

I don't have any pairings I am particularly attached too, so I tend to judge fic on their own quality rather than pairing.

It's gone through some revisions, I think, though it's entirely possible there's another with the same idea. It's definitely good, though, IMO, so I hope you enjoy! Anyway, I underestimated how many of my favorite fics aren't even online anymore (my age in this fandom is showing), but here's what I could find:

In The Mission is an oldie but a goodie, an unfinished novelization for the first game.

Just a Simple Haunting, another oldie-but-goodie, Dante/Trish on a standard mission.

Consanguinity is pretty a dark series, more than a little weird, but well-written, Vergil-POV while he was in Hell, various pairings.

I like all of Divine Comedy's stuff, mostly humor and Dante/Vergil interaction.

My favorites by Laryna6 are Rapture, a really epic Eva/Sparda fic that fleshes out the mythology from the games quite well, and Seas in Incardadine, a series of oneshots about Dante from the perspective of various characters.

EDIT: Oh, and I almost forgot another favorite, Nyx Midnight's work. Mostly porn, but good porn, IMO.
