Well, if it <would just be the money - I know people who just print out cards and play for fun. Can't do competition, then, obviously, but who cares really?

Solution: buy one of the video game versions. It's cheaper and less of a commitment.

DA

Addendum: Not the actual Magic the Gathering:Online, though. That one's just magic, but with virtual cards for the same prices.

Although it's nice when you want to play the occasional draft and have no RL friends who still play.

True. I have Duels of the Planewalkers, which, compared to the actual game, was reasonably priced for everything that I got with it.

Seconding this. The Duels of the Planeswalkers is a pretty good Magic game for a much more reasonable price. You can play the computer or online, and the decks are pretty balanced.

Check out your local comic book store, they always have tournaments. You can meet people who would teach you to play and loan you cards, and maybe you could figure out how your respective schedules fit together.

I tried, they don't.

I don't know why.

That's so weird, I've never heard of a comic book store not doing that. Sorry I couldn't help :(

Have you tried playing Hearthstone? It's online through Blizzard. It's very similar to M:TG and you don't have to pay to play.

Meanwhile, I can't give my Magic cards away.
