But you don't need to hit a ball with a stick to exercise, and you shouldn't be getting paid just to keep yourself fit.

Sports isn't exercise. It's playing a game where your body is the piece.

Sports is exercise though...it is a form of exercise...it is also a sort of game. It is both of those things.

When you start getting paid for your ability to hit a ball, and people pay for the privilege of watching you hit a ball, it stops being exercise. Exercise is something you do to stay fit. If you're trying to use professional sports as an exercise regimen you're doing it wrong. They're really not equivalent.

You do realize tons of people play sports as a hobby, right?

Did you just forget that that was a thing? The VAST majority of people who play sports never see a paycheck for it.

Forget it. He's so far up his own ass about this (he compares sports to cancer for God's sake, which is insensitive on just about every level) that there probably isn't anything anyone can say to change his mind. Fortunately he only seems to rant about it every few months or so.

eh. I like Dethtoll, and I don't mind engaging in debate. It seems a shame to not respond to this. (I guess I haven't really noticed his anti-sports rants before, or at least nothing this big)
