I don't know, I get what you mean, but at the same time, a lot of it seems to come from a black-and-white mindset. "Oh, you've decided to be good now? Well, aside from some angry glares and maybe an angry conversation, deciding to be good means you want be held responsible for all the horrible shit you've done!" Like, theoretically it could be grey, but they treat grey issues with a black-and-white mentality on a meta level.
