I preferred the Holmes Holodeck episodes, but, yeah, the costume department was definitely having a blast in the Hill episodes.

Fuck, I want a Dixon Hill NOVEL.

Told from the POV of Dixon Hill holodeck characters inside a malfunctioning holodeck program, as they slowly realize that Dixon Hill is actually a starship captain.

It kind of is, but if you want a pulp-detective Star Trek novel that's pretty much a given I'd say XD

Ah well, I don't really believe it is a given though. You just have to be creative and thoughtful enough to make the concept strong and not-dumb. Of course, that is pretty impossible in an official published novel that needs to pander to a 'broad' audience or whatever, but a novel-length fanfic could do it without being dumb IMO.

I have that book! It's pretty neat. I should re-read it at some point, as it's the closest I'll get to a real Hill novel. :P

IIRC, Roddenberry got sued for the use of Dixon Hill (and later sued by ACD's estate for the use of Holmes in S2), and that's why Dixon Hill was never used on the show again (though the Hill universe would show up again in First Contact).
