weird, i've never thought about it as steampunk

It's highly anachronistic, that's all. At least, as far as I'm concerned. It's no more steampunk than Xena was.

Steampunk? Admittedly I'm mostly going off second-hand information here (discussions with my mother), but steampunk never came into it. Funnily enough it's actually my next show to watch, bumped up the list after it's "crossover" with Republic of Doyle.

(Also, just discovered RoD, went through it all in about a week, and have managed to find every last bit of fanwork as far as I can tell. What is wrong with people? *sad tear*)

Yay, Murdock Mysteries!
Well, there were a few eps, especially with that inventor and the one with a science fair, but I don't think that it's predominately Steampunk. Just some bits, some episodes.

Fine with me! I'll just keep thinking of it as a quirky and weird Canadian show. :-) I mean, how often do you have a mystery series where the main detective rides a bicycle as his main mode of transport? AWesome! Also, so many quirky references to stuff. ^___^

I think, especially in early years, a few steampunky nods got thrown in, but it was never intended to be dedicated to that genre/concept.

Well, no. That would be The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne. (Am I the only one who remembers that show? Still no DVD release, at least in the US.)

No, I would not call it steampunk. I would sooner call it anachronistic, in a nice and tolerable way. It's self aware enough to get away with it.

Btw: I would totally read Murdoch/Brackenreid slash if there was any....
