I was outraged when I first read about it, but then AFFC happened and I found the rest of the Martells so incredibly obnoxious that I couldn't really be sad about Oberyn's death anymore. :/ It just ruined things for me.

After we got down howling ("OH GOD, OH DAMN, NO! UGH!") the hubs and I both realized it was our own fault: we liked him. He was cool and sexy and fun to watch, so of course he has to eat shit. That's Westeros. Everyone cool or likeable or even just remotely decent will die horribly, inevitably. I'm waiting for the day the Onion Knight gets strung up by his toes, because lol, honor and loyalty gonna fuck ya every time, bro.

As someone that has only read the books, I didn't really feel a lot of rage. Do they concentrate on him more in the show? Because I feel like he's mostly a background character and plot device in the book - an introduction into the Martells and why they hate The Mountain. They're the ultimate "keep your enemies close" type of family for the Lannisters.

Anyway, I kinda saw it coming. Who actually thought that ploy would work for Tyrion twice?

I did, however, take a lot of pleasure in knowing The Mountain suffered for days from painful, horrific infections. Because that character deserved all the pain in the world.

Most of the people raging I saw were raging because "How dare they kill a bisexual character!" I felt like he could more focus in the show maybe but not that much more.

They made him a bigger focal point in the show and gave him more depth. I actually like show!Oberyn more than book!Oberyn, and it's rare that I like the show version more than the book version of a character.
