The brain does funny things when it's in distress. It doesn't act like a rational animal under pressure. And under what you were going through, previous to and after your suicide attempt, that's a lot of pressure. Sometimes our brains need to latch onto something else, something seemingly insignificant (but I bet, given time, you'll find out there was a reason your brain went to that character) to get us through the really, really REALLY rough parts. It's okay - it means your brain wants you to live, and it's doing things that will help you do exactly that.

Coping mechanisms are just weird. Everyone deals with things differently. After I tried to kill myself (and failed miserably, obviously)I just pretended it didn't happen, that it was no big deal. I think I even went to school the next day.

Just because it's self-inflicted, doesn't mean it can't be a traumatic experience, and the brain deals with that in any way it can. There is no right or wrong way,whatever works for you. Don't feel silly or ashamed if this helps you - because that's the main thing.

You probably needed a distraction. I don't think anyone would blame you for that; you were obviously going through a lot, and if it helped you that's fine. I'm glad you made it through, and I hope that therapy helps. Good luck with everything. <3

My older sister is clinically depressed and we've had a rough past week with her. She's also suicidal. I'm glad to hear that you are seeking help and recovering. My thoughts are with you and your family.
