So the big rumor is that the character we see running around in the Zelda U trailer is actually female--a female Link, Zelda, Link's daughter, or, if male, not Link.

This is mostly drawn from how androgynous the character appears and Aonuma's comment about how no one actually said it was Link.

Personally I think it is Link, and he's just playfully generating hype. He (and Nintendo) have been known to do that.

Honestly, the thing I'm really leery about is that when it inevitably isn't a woman, and that's actually just a teenage Link, there's going to be a huge freak out from tumblr about how Nintendo is sexist.

Last I heard, this had already been de-bunked.

I'm all for more female representation in games, but I don't see the need to change an iconic character just for that. I'd be really disappointed if they did that honestly. :/ (plus I have a huge crush on Link, and as disappointed as I am in general with the art choice for this game, this Link is especially pretty)

I'm honestly more interested in the Gerudo-style armbands. When I first saw that one screencap, I assumed it was Link, so I'll keep assuming it's Link. That was I won't be disappointed if it is, and pleasantly surprised if it isn't.

Oh damn, I am so intrigued by those arm bands. I kind of really, really want a Link raised by the Gerudo. (I had a vague idea for an Ocarina AU to that end, where Link's mother ran into the desert instead of the forest, but this could be actually canon!)

The graphics are amazing and whoever the new link is, they're gorgeous.

Link or not, tumblr just needs to shut the fuck up. WE HAVE 3 PLAYABLE FEMALE CHARACTERS AS IS. Why does LINK of all people suddenly need to be a woman?

Because tumblr, much of which does not actually participate in most of the things it whines about, is far more interested in pretending to be oppressed, in areas where they are not actually oppressed, than they are in looking at things rationally.

You're right. It's already been confirmed that it's Link. Aonuma made it public that he was just joking that he technically never said it was Link and found it funny and didn't expect it to go big.

Personally, I don't find it that disappointing, especially since we get to play 3 female characters in the Dynasty game. They're even hinting that Zelda isn't going to be a princess this time about because they want to mess with tradions. Besides, it's Link's game. I would rather if they were going to change main characters, maybe make a spin-off still set in Hyrule.

I don't get why people jumped on the idea that he's 'too' androgynous there. He looks about as manly/girly as many other iterations, and he's been male then in all of them.

I don't want Link as female, though. Purely out of attachment to the idea of the character. They can expand other female roles, though.

You and me both, Anon. He looked exactly the same to me, no more or less androgynous than he was before in recent games.
