... I can't think of any other reason why it would "squick" them aside from that age old 'It's pedo!' claim I hear a lot.

I dislike Kataang, but I don't think its pedo. I dislike it because Katara seems too maternal to be in love with a person like Aang.

But you wouldn't call that "squick". I relate that word with things that creep or gross you out/feel wrong in your mind.

In most cases, when that term is used for Kataang (I have seen it used before) it's because of their young age.

That's just the way I saw it. Whether it's true or not, who knows.

I agree Rilani. That's the same reason why I don't like the pairing. She's a mother figure to him and I can't really see her cross over that boundary into being a regular girl on equal footing with Aang.

If it were that way, I'm sure I could view it as such...but how her personality is...I just can't.

Can I ask how. And I don't mean Katara's mothering behavior, because honestly, she does that with everyone, it is just who she is. What proof is there that Aang views her as a mother figure? And I don't think she views him as her son either.

Not really trying to be snippy just curious, because I don't see how a few mothering tendencies that Katara does to everyone puts her in the role of Aang's mother.

I am so sick of this argument... Not trying to be mean, but... there is not a valid reason for it nor is there any proof. Katara mother's everyone. She mother's Toph, her own brother and Momo for god's sake.

OMG word to that. I mean Kataang isn't my favorite pairing, but they really need to stop with the Katara=Aang's mother argument. She does not consider herself his mother, he doesn't consider her his mother, so their relationship isn't focused on that. I mean if she really thought of him in that way she would have never suggested kissing him in that cave. Because umm, she was the one who suggested it not Aang.

And I just wanted to say I feel your frustration in this.

WORD. I actually like a lot of other pairings more than Kataang, though I admit it is my main ship.

The arguments against Kataang are really weak. I HATE the whole 'Katara is like Aang's mother' argument. I mean... just... WHAT? Katara is just kind, caring and nurturing to others. That's mother like but it doesn't mean she sees those she treats that way as her child. And that they see her as their mother. X_x

Actually you two I'm new to the fandom so I'm not here to go to 'war' so to speak.

It's not that big of deal of how I see this pairing now is it? You'll continue to think this way about fictional characters and I, on the other hand, won't really agree with it even if it is canon.

So then what is the problem?
