Nah, far from it. I have a very sarcastic and abrasive tone lots of the time that often gets MISTAKEN for anger, that could be it >_>

They could hate every pairing ever, but they're specifically singling this one out when it's no different than 3/4s of the other popular PW pairings. (And hell, this one you can sort of make a case for having POTENTIAL if not for being, uh, actual)

Plus, they're just going out of their way to be abrasive, I'm bored, so there we go >_>

(Oh and the funny part? I'm really not even a P/E shipper. I like the pairing and think it could work in the hands of an extremely talented writer who can handle the three games' worth of dynamic. But I like soooo many other PW pairings more. XD I just am not the biggest fan of people who behave like the secret poster~)

Well... P/E shippers DO tend to shove crap about how "canon" it is in your face, and label you a homophobe if you don't automatically love it :| But yeah, I see what you mean.

Where? I mean, I hear this a lot, but I don't think I've ever seen it actually happen. Not on livejournal, not on CR, not anywehre else I've been. In curiosity, I even tried digging around the Gaia forums to see if there was a hardcore contingent of fans on there. I couldn't find anything.

All I've found is that P/E fangirls seem to have this reputation...but I've never seen it put into play...

It's only happened to me personally once, to be honest, but I don't even try to find where it's going on XD; But someone just told me I was dumb and homophobic for not liking P/E.

Hmm, I guess I'd have to see it in context. You're not coming across as particularly dumb or homophobic to me...just, I don't get it.

People have said rude things to me all the time about what couples I ship and what couples I don't. But it doesn't really enter my head to say "[blah] shippers have a tendency to do [blah]" unless I see it happening regularly and often. And it's such a tiny fandom, so I'd think that sort of behavior would be obvious...

That's not to say it's right or okay to insinuate you're homophobic just because you don't like fictional lawyers in a gay relationship, just that I think it's far from an epidemic among P/E shippers. I think they're too busy writing porn or squeeing...

People who talk about how non-canon pairings are canon are... irritating... no matter the fandom or the pairing, I totally agree. And though I think there is some serious subtext about Edgeworth -> Phoenix, P/E is hugely far from canon and I think anybody who's got half a working brain in their head would agree.

But what IS there is potential. It's potential loaded with tons of baggage that most writers can't handle (which is why 90% of P/E fic is crap) but that a good writer can easily work with. I think there's honestly MORE potential / support for Phoenix/Edgeworth as a romantic pairing than there are for a bunch of the other popular fandom pairings.

Does that make it canon? No. Does that mean everybody needs to love it the most? Of course not.

As far as the homophobe goes... well, when you have people who (verbatim) make comments like "Wtf Phoenix and Edgeworth aren't gay that's disgusting" then I think homophobia might be a biiiiit justified XD

I agree, that someone could make a good fic or something out of it. I mean, it DOES make more sense than alot of other pairings. But, like you said, that does not make it canon, and the only thing that bothers me about the pairing is how people claim that it is.

The only time homophobia should really be brought into it is, uh, stuff like I mentioned. (Or the strange aversion of people when talking about the whole 3-5 Secret to even consider the remote possibility that Edgeworth might be intended to be gay. But I don't think that falls under homophobia per se >_>)

I'm in agreement with Musouka, though. I honestly don't see much of "IT'S SO CANON OMG SQUEEEEEE" in the PW fandom, and I'm pretty damn active there. :/

Well, what's what I'd like to know! I understand that fangirls can get on other people's nerves, but I just haven't seen a lot of the behavior people are describing in general.

I mean, me personally, P/E is my only real 'ship' for Phoenix or Edgeworth--but it seems like the vast majority of P/E shippers are pretty open to other pairings. Many of them also ship Gumshoe/Edgeworth or Godot/Phoenix, and Diego/Mia...Gumshoe/Maggey, ect, ect, ect.

I'll gladly debate about subtext and textual readings, but at the end of the day, P/E is not canon. They aren't in a relationship in the games themselves...but I do think the subtext is absolutely deliberate. I don't know if this makes me an obnoxious "they're so canon!!111!" shipper like the type people complain about, but it's not my intention to annoy people...

My roommate can bitch and bitch (I love you honey :D) about P/E and its fangirls, but in the end what it admittedly boils down to for her and everyone else I've ever observed is jealously of the sheer support it gets vs other, more obscure pairings.

I am not saying this jealousy is unjustifiable, because P/E IS probably the biggest ship in fandom, but there is plenty of fic posted every day in igiari alone that is NOT P/E.

I think what we have here is a case reputation preceding actual observation.
