I'm so not a fan of Whedon, but this one was a bit different from his usual style (well, apart from Winona Rider...god, I hate her character SO MUCH). I can't say I liked it though, jesus. I didn't have much love for the 3th either, but this one made me actively enraged.

Pretty much the same feeling I got from Terminator 3 and 4... okay, maybe Alien 4 sucked a bit less.

Don't agree with it being Whedon's best, but I think it's a lot better than most people give it credit for. IMO, Alien >>>>>> Resurrection > Aliens > Aliens 3. Predatory Ripley and the Serenity-rough draft space pirates were awesome, and I loved the utter fuckery of the company trying to clone her back to life to take advantage of the creature, and all the failed attempts in glass jars, and the part where she had to flamethrower the one that was conscious, plus Sigourney's slithery new attitude and that weird-ass hybrid baby thing with a skull face? All peppered with Ron Perlman being a sarcastic ass. So fun. :D

Absolutely this. That movie is underrated. Aliens vs. space pirates is awesome, and some of the action scenes were incredibly compelling.

I actually have a friend IRL who loooooooooves the post Aliens sequels and thinks that they are genuinely good movies*, so I believe you OP.

* For reference, my friend also thought that Battleship was a great movie. Lol.

Well, I liked the Buffy movie, but I definitely wouldn't call it his best work.

And even if you didn't like anything else he did, he had writing credit on Toy Story.

Yeah well, FOX was the studio in charge of making the Buffy film and pretty much interfered left and right with it, if half the stories are true (Pretty much the story of Joss' life with FOX). Hence why we get another insipid 90's teen comedy but with the added bonus of vampires.

The Buffy series is much more in line with what Joss wanted with the Buffy concept.
