Would you rather have a nightmare where you're helpless and awaiting your impending death no matter how much you struggle, or a nightmare where you're killing helpless innocent people who couldn't do anything to stop you?

Well, considering all of my dreams (ALL) are basically the first one, the second choice would be a nice change of pace!

I feel the opposite, actually. Most of my dreams are similar to the first one, which I don't really like, but at least I'm familiar with it and know how to deal with it. Changing it to the second would be equally unpleasant but in a much more unfamiliar and weirder way.

I am used to the first kind. I have only ever had bad dreams for as long as I can remember (generally about being chased down and killed). But I think it'd be nice to have a straight forward kill people dream. Because occasionally my brain likes to stray from the path and really freak me out (controlling head worms, zombie whales, and finding dead bodies, hooray).

Same.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh. I'm the reverse. I'm always killing people (and to make it worse, always toddlers or infants) and just... Wake up bawling as a result. It'd be nice if they were nightmares where i *wasn't* the monster.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly this.

Though not all my dreams are like the first one (sometimes nobody is getting killed).

The hunter or the prey?

Screw it. I'll be the hunter.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I've had both, and the second one freaked me out less when I woke up.

2 but I dream of killing guilty people.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
The second one at least is so out of the bounds of reality that it wouldn't be as scary when I woke up. Whereas the first has that lingering plausible fear.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd probably prefer the latter to the former. I don't really get nightmares, as such. The frightening night events I get are mostly night terrors (of the bolt-awake-screaming type), and I never remember the actual dream parts of those. To be honest, I mostly don't remember the waking screaming parts either, but everyone else in the house tends to, so I know they've happened.

Having nightmares, as in scary dreams you can remember, would be weird for me, but I think I would prefer the killing-people one. I've had dreams about death before, that weren't so much scary as weird and possibly Freudian, and I've had frustration/anger dreams where I keep repeating actions, so a dream exorcising anger wouldn't disturb me as much. A dream of helpless horror, that I could then remember, would scare me a lot more.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
The first one, since that's not a nightmare to me. The second one DEFINITELY is. I have absolutely no fear of my own death. Having someone else's blood on my hands, though? Horrifying.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-15 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh definitely the former, I get enough of the latter at work piloting the drones.

I've had the former, not the latter. So I'd say killing people - just for experience's sake.

I didn't know #2 was a thing.

I think I've reached a level of self-confidence where a #1 dream won't stay a #1. The person in the dream who represents "me" will always find a way to survive. I'm not sure I could escape a #2, so I'll pick #1.
elaminator: (Metal Gear Rising: Raiden (Jack))

[personal profile] elaminator 2014-06-15 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The first, though both are terrible and I'd rather have neither.

I have had dreams like the former, and they aren't pleasant; I'd be happy never having them again.

Never had one exactly like the latter, but I have had violent dreams where I was slicing people up with a sword. (I've played too many video games...) They weren't innocent, but all the same I was seriously disturbed when I woke up. Might as well use my Raiden icon for this; it's appropriate.

Maybe the first one? I would feel really guilty about the second one, and I think it would fuck me up.

[personal profile] dreemyweird 2014-06-15 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
The first one; I'm not afraid of death.

When I get nightmares it's always the former, so I guess I'd like the latter, just for a change.

I'd go with the first one. Sometimes it's nice to feel a few twinges of fear. :)

former. so much less traumatic after waking up.

Probably one where I'm killing people, tbh. The horror of waiting to die would be way worse than the horror of killing people, and much harder to shake off after.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-16 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
The first one, tbh.

I hate having nightmares where other people are dying and I can't help them. That's far more trauamatizing for me.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-16 06:42 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely the waiting to die one.
