I think the Lydia/Beetlejuice shipping may have been influenced by the cartoon, which portrayed the characters and their dynamic very differently. He's still an unlikely character for shipping, but the cartoon version at least isn't a creeper.

Yeah, most people I know shipped them because of the cartoon. Pretty sure the animators were shipping them, too.
