I loved it. I did think a lot of the secondary characters were just set decorations, but I loved the animation, the music and the story. What happened to Stoick made me sniffle, and Hiccup was more likeable this time around. His relationships with his parents and Astrid were really well done.

And I appreciated how Ruffnut was comfortable enough with herself to flirt with a guy she liked. Her parts were fantastic.

ayrt I had issues with Ruffnut because those scenes just seemed awkward and forced, like they were padding for time or something. (Not just the parts with her and the guy she liked, but the parts with the boys who liked her too). But then I never felt a connection to Hiccup's clique, so there's that.

The animation was really good but I feel like they missed a lot of opportunities for brilliant sequences, like tracking the flight scenes from the side instead of behind (thereby losing the roller-coaster feeling from the first movie).
The music was overly bombastic imo-- nearly every scene had some kind of booming theme, even when it wasn't needed, and sometimes the music didn't fit the tone of the scene. This was especially disappointing because the music was perfection in the first film.

I liked Hiccup a lot and while his mom's character bothered me a bit at first I loved it when she "came alive" during the dancing scene with Stoick.

...anyway sorry to barf all that on you. I just have a lot of feelings, clearly.

S'all good. Different strokes and all that.

Part of the reason I like Ruff's parts were that she's not 'conventionally pretty' like Astrid, and she's comfortable enough with her sexuality to go after a guy.

A lot of the comedy was forced, I'll give you that.
