I don't really like one of my story's followers.

Okay so...I have this story that's pretty popular in Danny Phantom fandom, and I was really excited and surprised by the people who liked my story and for the most part I tend to be very appreciative of the people who enjoy my story enough to follow and review.

However ....I have one big pet peeve when it comes to fandom and that's character bashing. There's this guy who's reviewed two times. First of all, what he was trying to say in the review was REALLY hard to make out I had to read it a few times to understand. But that's not really the bad part.

He...doesn't like Sam (Sam Manson the female best friend of the hero) and he seriously dislikes the idea of Danny/Sam . (Now normally I wouldn't judge on that because I personally don't like how it went and how the series handled it). In his reviews he's often demonizing Sam and talking about how she was horrible this chapter and being "so unfair" for among many things- not instantly trusting and liking Valerie, Danny's ex, who at one point had a history of hunting Danny's ghost form. He chews her out for being "mean" to Valerie because he assumes Valerie is "just trying to be a good friend" (in actuality there is some OBVIOUS tension between the two in the fic and its coming from both sides)

Me and my friend (who's helping write the fic) looked at one of the fanfics he wrote that he called the "ultimate anti-DannyxSam fic". Basically it has Sam coming on to Danny really hard, and sort of makes her out to be "slutty", and has Danny go ahead and do it with her....but then break it off and tell her that she's like a sister. Which...seriously weirds me out.

I know I should be nice and thankful for people showing interest in my fic at all....but I swear if I get another review where he's bashing on Sam for every little thing she does I might snap at him to knock it off. I feel like this is horrible etiquette but just...ugh. Character bashing annoys the hell out of me. Would I come across as a rude bitchy author if I replied to him and told him that I really don't appreciate the constant bashing he does toward this ONE character?

(also , I am aware of Sam's flaws as a character, and I actually have the story address them, not in a "wow she's such a bitch" way, but in a way that has her realizing and dealing with these things, because I feel like the show dropped the ball on them in the last season)

You absolutely have a right to tell someone to stop doing something you don't like.

Thanks, although I feel like engaging him might not be a good idea. I wouldn't want a flamewar breaking out.

*edit: ...okay on second thought I wouldn't say it's popular. Why did I put that...I am such a smug asshat.

If it's true, own it! Your fic is popular! Congrats!

You might consider just telling the reviewer that while you appreciate his faithful readership, he might be happier reading something else because your current fic just doesn't seem to match his tastes. And then maybe recommend something else?

Thanks...I mean I have some following I guess I'm just unsure what constitutes as that. *shrug*

That sounds like a good option *nod*

That sounds really awful. But at the same time, the best advice I can give you is to ignore it/him. If he starts spamming your review page, you could consider deleting his reviews or getting him blocked, but until it gets to that point I don't think it will really achieve anything engaging with him and telling him you don't like his character bashing.

Or, you know, you could, and possibly start a huge flamewar in the comments section of your fic. Which I don't think you would actually like.

Yeah. I think I'll just ignore him. Not giving him attention will probably help.

not rude at all. Since you are writing what you want to write, reviewers telling you that you should/shouldn't write a particular character or pairing is obnoxious. So is using reviews as a platform for bashing. Tell him to cut it out. Concrit is great but it doesn't include dictating to the author what characters or relationships to focus on.

I've also had him suggest an "idea" for something to happen and of course it's something to make Sam look horrible. Again.I really do not like having someone do that, too. Being all "ooh why don't you have this happen!" it's just really grating.

Yep, that's stupid. Acting like someone is writing fanfic just for you is dumb.

He sounds like a total asshole and you have every right to tell him to cut it out. It's rude and kind of creepy.

his issues with Sam are most certainly kind of creepy, yeah. Just that obsessive hate and demonizing. Especially knowing about his fanfic and how he treats Sam in that.
