Re: Things to do to improve a bad day
(Anonymous) 2014-06-16 03:22 am (UTC)(link)This is going to be ironic, but every person I've ever met who's said 'this thing works for everyone!' has been wrong. Making generalisations like that is usually a bad move because when someone who has a different experience comes out and says, 'Um, not quite everyone', you either have to eat crow or look like an ass while you scramble to cover yours.
Re: Things to do to improve a bad day
Unless you happen to be chronically physiologically ill (and even then, exercise can have a positive effect on some disease processes) exercise treats emotional lows, depression, anxiety, common body image issues... I mean, yeah, I'm assuming that here "I had a bad day" doesn't mean "I had a bad day during my cancer treatment". That would be a different story.
However, OP didn't post anything to suggest that was the case.
As much as you might not like it, fifty years of studies suggest that yes, exercise does work this way for everyone. In fact, it works for everyone regardless of gender, BMI, and even age. It works for short term difficulties and it works for long term problems.
I really can't overemphasize it, because there's basically zero downside no matter who you are or what your lifestyle or life stage is. The only circumstances in which exercise can be a detriment or ineffectual are in people with OCD, certain eating disorders that can trigger OCD behaviour, or people who have entered the process of dying. That's it.
So get up and move more. Seriously. It will work.
