Oh, no. Usually I agree with you, but you are so wrong here. The hardcore fans (aka a small % of people) were muttering that it was OOC, but the majority of the noise was OMG RAPE! IT IS A RAPE SCENE! GRRM HATES THE WOMEN!

That's possibly true. In my circle of friends, like 75% of the complaining I saw was about it being OOC. I did see some people upset at another non-canonical and necessary rape scene being added though.

There was also the secondary wank that the screenwriter of the scene said that he thought it didn't depict rape. Which is just like... what even.

But yeah, the only wank I heard from around my circle of book and non book fans was that it was rape, and on top of that rape that wasn't in the books. As a non book reader I personally took the stance that everyone in GoT is terrible and does awful awful things and so on a relative scale it didn't make that much sense to make such a big issue about one single rape.

An alarming number of people who'd read the books and watched the episode didn't mention the change at all.

Changing "Only Cat" to "Your sister"? Blasphemy! They're shitting all over the canon! D&D have lost me as a viewer, forever!

Changing a consensual sex scene to a rape scene perpetrated by a character who's 100% against rape in the books? crickets

Seriously? The wank over the rape was over the roof. ONTD still brings it up when Jaime is discussed.

I saw a few threads specifically about things the show changed in that episode and it was barely mentioned out of a hundred or so comments.
