So today I had a shitty birthday, like I do every year. No one except my mom ever remembers it, unless you count all the cute video game characters that are programmed to remember your birthday no matter what. Those guys are cool. I love those guys.

Does anyone have recommendations for cute video games or shows I can play/watch? I feel silly about being bummed out and want to do something fun to get over it.

Is it still your birthday? If you have time, have you tried to see what free stuff you can get? Even if it like a free birthday cookie. Because, hey, free cookie!

Otherwise, I am sorry you had a bad birthday.

What shows do you like to watch?

None of the places in town have any free bday goodies! Just 10% discounts or stuff that requires you pay for a whole meal or something similar. All the meals I had today were pretty filling, though, so I'm not complaining!

I like watching Disney movies, cheesy anime shows, random things I find on the cartoon channels, stuff like that. Mainly things that I can watch whenever and not feel bad about missing an episode or two.

cheesy anime shows

I almost want to recommend Tiger and Bunny because it's ridiculously fun, and it IS super adorable as well, but it also has its share of sad parts too (I was surprised how much I cried during it) so not sure if that would fit the bill...

If you can, find the original Project A-Ko anime movie from the 80's. It's my go to anime movie for when I am down. It's so cheesy and fun.

My idea of a cute video game is Portal, Viva Pinata or one of the Lego games. You probably meant free video games, right? ...Uh, I like Pocket Legends but not sure I would call it cute. Sort of cute?

The only tv show that immediately makes me think 'cute' is MLP, and I've only seen two episodes of that so I don't feel like I can truly recommend it.

Maybe you should go out? I don't know what kind of things you like (whether you enjoy eating out, or going shopping, or visiting a museum or what), but sometimes just being amongst people can raise your spirits a bit.

Sorry, OP. I hope next year is better. :(

That's sucky. :(

I have a bunch of things on my Netflix queue for occasions just such as this one. Last Holiday is one of my all-time favorite cheerful movies, as are episodic superhero shows, like Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I usually settle down with some peanut butter cups and wine.

I'm sorry OP.

happy birthday, anon! don't feel too bad, i spent my birthday alone at the aquarium last year because i just wanted to draw and look at some sharks. the point of your birthday isn't to hang out with a million people, it's just to enjoy yourself.

to that end, here are some cute short games i've found in my time on the internet:
line rider, a game where you draw a line and a penguin goes sledding down the line
winter bells, which has little plucky music and a tiny bunny
jurassic heart, a dating sim where you woo a t-rex.

when i'm trying to cheer myself up or get ready for a new day i like to watch adventure time, also. it's really funny but also has good morals and characters, so you should watch it if you haven't seen it yet.

If you're looking for flash games, I have a few that I'd call "cute" and a few more that I'd cal "relaxing". Went through my favorites list on Kong, maybe you'll like one or more of these:

Mushroom Madness 1, 2 and 3 have cute animals and cute cartoony graphics, and are probably one of my favorite series altogether. Slightly addicting.

Boomshine and Obechi, by the same developer, are very relaxing with relaxing music, sfx, and images and each has a simple premise. Obechi especially makes me happy to play.

Combine is possibly one of my all-time favorites; it's very relaxing and can either be something I'm really engaged in or something I do mindlessly while paying attention to something else.

Trigger Knight is perhaps highest on the scale of adorableness among these recs. It's just adorable. And addicting.

Anther series with 3 current installments is GlueFO - it's fun and relaxing, and again can be intense or not depending on how you want to play it. first, second, third

If you like numbers/geometric puzzle games:

10 is an extremely polished and fun relaxing number game, as is its sequel, 10 is again.

Interlocked is great if you're a visual person.

Finally, something that I know at least a few other people here like: more along the lines of cute and fun, but depending on what you pick can be really engaging: anything and everything in the Bloons series. There are too many to link them all, but I believe they're all on Kong and I know they're all on ninjakiwi.com, which is their developer. There is the original Bloons series, which is a simple aim-and-shoot where you're a monkey trying to pop balloons (called bloons) with a dart gun. I haven't played a lot of those, but they're popular. There is the Bloons Tower Defense series, which is possibly the best TD series I've ever played and super fun. There are five installations, but I think the fourth is my favorite. There's also Bloons Super Monkey and its sequel; I kinda prefer the first but haven't really played the second. It's an arcade-style game where you are a super monkey flying through the air popping bloons and getting power-ups.

That comment got away with me big time. One of these days I really just need to compile a flash game list and link it to people when I want to rec something.

Anyway, if you are still looking for something to do, I hope one of these makes you happy. And either way, happy birthday and here's to a much better one next year, anon. <3
