In the books, she's a complete golddigger. She doesn't care for him at all. He projects all this history with his first wife onto her when Shae is just in it for the money. In the show, she clearly has feelings for him and cares for Sansa.

But then they wrote the courtroom scene exactly the same as well as the strangling scene. There is no explanation for her being in Tywin's bed. And the way he kills her is just so brutal, especially because he walked up to her clearly pissed and wanting to do something to her.

But that's why it broke him so much. Also it ties in Jon's story thematically, making a nice little narrative combo.

I disagree. It makes no sense. If they were going to change her character, they needed to explain why she acted the same way. And without connecting it to his first wife, it doesn't explain his actions quite as much. The fact that he believed in the books that the same thing had happened before with his first wife until Jaime explains what actually happened explains so much of why he was able to cross the line and kill both Shae and Tywin. In the show, without that connection, his actions come across even worse.

I don't think we needed a bit presentation of that. It seemed easy enough to reason out.

Shae is a survivor first. She acts in her own interest. Sometimes, she cares about others enough to make them part of her interests, sure. But she felt abandoned by Tyrion just when she was caught by somebody she knew full well could and would put the hurt on her, and her decision was maybe not the most pleasant, but was made quickly.

That's interesting about shae: I had really liked up til the trial, and assumed that she'd been pressured or coerced into testifying against him. It then makes her being on Tyson's bed all the more loaded.

(Standard gold digger, eh? How full. I'm glad the series made that chAnge in on her characterization then, but yeah it dies make the resolution of her story sort of ... Non sequitur
