Sometimes when talking about things I like to crazy levels, I dumb my knowledge way down if I suspect the person isn't as... passionate as me.

"So in Harry Potter, the guy has some sort of pet... a raven? No, an owl, right? It is an owl?"

(Exaggeration is exaggerated. But does anyone else do this?)

AYRT

Good! Of course, sometimes it's backfired horribly, but it also backfires if someone says "I love those books" and I don't realize for non-fandom types, "love" generally means "read/watched one time a million years ago and know most of it from water cooler conversations and/or wikipedia." So.

Haha. I do this sometimes. Though, sometimes I'll just tell out answers to geeky stuff people are talking about if they are looking for an answer. But, I def downplay how much I like things. My boss is a fan of MCU Loki, as am I, and I was like "eh," because I didn't want to get into a squeey fangirl conversation with her. The only time I let people irl know my interests is when I'm drunk.
