Started watching this.

Anyone know why the episodes were broadcast so out-of-order?

(Netflix apparently has then in broadcast order: a reviewer there says the proper viewing order for S1 for how they're listed in Netflix is 1,7,2,4,3,6,5, 8-11,13,12,14-22).

I'm not sure, but it doesn't really matter. The first season eps, up to the end, are very stand-alone. I watched in broadcast order and it didn't seen to matter at all. ALSO, TALK TO ME ABOUT THE SHOW IF YOU WANT. It's one of my favorites, I've seen it like three times and kind of want to do a rewatch.

We literally just started. I've seen bits here and there before but I'm generally unspoiled. (My only observations so far are that a) D'Argo = badass space dwarf and b) Crichton is more like able than Stanley Tweedle.

I'm guessing it was probably some weird SciFi channel exec order that decided certain episodes would be better held off (I've definitely seen some speculation that 'I, E.T' at least was aired later because it's a fairly weak episode and the people in charge wanted something stronger to follow the premiere. S2 does something similar, the intended first episode ended up being pushed to about mid-season because it was decided the intended second episode made for a stronger opener). It doesn't really effect much except some small bits that aren't super noticeable -- I watched the show as it aired and had no idea it was out of order until years later. As long as you watch the last stretch -- 14-22 -- in order, the early episodes aren't that big a deal.

*nods* I think the point made on Netflix was that certain characters appeared on the ship before they'd been introduced to the crew?

Gonna chime in and say that I had no idea the eps were aired out of order, and that it also doesn't matter too much, because the actual story arcs were definitely played in order.

Also, Farscape is fucking amazing. It's my absolute favorite TV series, and I'm excited for you. What an imaginative, wonderful, heartbreaking ride it is.

(Gah, I guess I should try to answer your question: I have no idea why they were aired out of order. Skiffy is dumb.)

Oddly, and assuming the OADs in the wikipedia article are correct -- they were aired willy-nilly in both the US and UK, but with different disorderings.

I'm also a bit curious whether both Farscape and Lexx (which started 2 years earlier) had a common inspiration for the living space vessel idea.
