There is also a weirdly high number of comic fans who buy titles just to support comics. Even if they're terrible. I personally know at least three such people. Those are possibly skewing the numbers.

You made a bad decision, DC.

They will never, ever admit it. They will cling to the initial surge in sales as proof that it worked, and just say that people aren't buying comics rather than admit they are making shitty ones. :(

...The fact that Image just climbed into bed with Brubaker for FIVE WHOLE YEARS makes me more thrilled than any contract announcement should. :D

Ah, I don't get that at all. On some level I can understand wanting to support the medium, but comics are damn expensive to be buying things that you don't even particularly like or feel aren't good. Still, I guess if you have the extra cash...

That's most companies, unfortunately. I hope you're wrong, but you probably aren't.

Ooo, I hadn't heard about that! Isn't he doing Velvet? (I've been meaning to read that.) Or is it another comic?

One of my three known parties is supporting a specific franchise. The other two...not a clue.

Brubaker and Philips have an unprecedented carte blanche deal with Image. If they create it, Image will publish it. Which is awesomesauce. And, yes, Velvet is his, with the glorious pretty that is Steve Epting's art.
