This is the most disturbing thing I've read in a very long time.

And so long as you're going to torture yourself based on some disgustingly twisted ideal of feminine beauty, which I can only assume you think is a good idea, why the hell would you make it so completely unattainable?

So you can continue to hate yourself for the rest of your life?

She's drawn. She's stylized. What the fuck is wrong with you?

Oh, I've seen models who look like that but worse. At least in this stylized character you don't see her ribcage.

The anorexia encouragers really bother me. There's a difference between ideal body weight for your height (which varies from person to person) and starvation.

It's not how thin she is or isn't -- it's that the OP seems to want to set an unreachable goal. The person she wants to emulate is not, in fact, a person. it's a series of arbitrary lines and colors thrown together to make something that looks vaguely like a person. It's an unattainable goal and the message is that, whoever this girl is who made the secret, she wants to go on hating herself forever.

That body simply does not translate.

I agree with you, but I was pointing out that it does translate into real life via the bone thin models I've seen in the past.

I don't like it at all.

I took it more like #31 wanted to lose weight so she could be as sexy as her, not actually starve herself to unrealistic proportions? I don't think she meant thinspiration in the way pro-ana mean thinspiration so much as a quick way to say "hey I think she's hot I want to look like her how about I lay off the donuts"

Kind of like cosplayers losing weight to fit the role they're doing...I don't really see that as having a body image disorder so much as just being motivated to get in shape, albeit for a silly fandom reason.

If she didn't mean it as pro-ana, why would she use a strictly-ana term like "thinspiration"? And isn't the idea of losing weight for a cosplay role supported by an LJ comm called "ana-cosplay" or something?

If you want to give the OP the benefit of the doubt, you go right ahead. But "thinspiration" is an ana-specific term, so I think it's well within reason to be shocked and appalled at the idea of body dysphoria to the point of idealizing physical impossibilities as represented by animated characters.

My reaction was exactly the same. I just about lost it when I saw the word "thinspiration."

I had an anorexic friend in high school. She was very thin naturally, but her negative body image (combined with her step-father's constant emotional abuse), led her to stop eating entirely.

Her 'thinspiration'? Them (http://z.about.com/d/xbox/1/7/J/F/doax21.jpg).

By the time she was seventeen, she had dwindled to just 100 pounds. She's 5'9". She stopped menstruating entirely, started to lose her hair, her hip bones jutted out so far that hugging her was painful, and she never achieved her dream of the perfect DoA cosplay, because she'd completely lost her breasts. She had to be hospitalized three times her senior year, and only graduated because I did the work for her.

People with eating disorders don't just harm themselves. They harm the people who love them as well.

I'm sorry for how long and drawn-out this comment was.
