Male-oriented fandoms don't really turn fap fuel into social justice progressive or whatever but they sure as hell do a lot of other dumb stuff. Just to give one example, there is far, far less Power Level Debate in female-oriented fandoms. And that stuff is very dumb.

I don't know, this is just kind of a ridiculous opinion to have, as framed here, in a lot of different ways

God, yes. I mostly lurk on one male-centered fan board, and while there are occasionally good conversations, there are mostly obsessive Power Level debates going on and on. Who is objectively stronger? Let me tally my evidence after combing the canon for proof that my favorite character could totally destroy your favorite, because I have the facts on my side. It's weird and amazingly boring, and it's why I'm not there unless I've just finished one of the books and am willing to poke through the posts for the good stuff.

What I like is good, what THEY like is dumb. I mean discussing character stats all day? Yeah, stupid and childish. I can barely even remember a charater's name if he isn't hot! /s

How much is there to discuss in character stats though? Especially in say, videogame fandoms when that shit is laid out in plain black and white. Waste of time that could be spent on fancreating, frankly.

I really want to know where the "men aren't catty" comes from. No, seriously. Because I am fairly sure all the men I've met are just as spiteful, catty, and gossipy as all the women. I've sat and listened to a dude make catty comments about his boss all freakin' weekend. He's only wrote him up because he knows he's better than him at sales, he doesn't like him because he has a hot girlfriend, etc. etc. All weekend.

Unless this is one of those weird society gendered things where a man making catty comments about someone else is "Expressing a negative opinion" and a woman doing the same thing is "being a catty bitch" The same way men get 'mad' or 'angry' and women get 'emotional' or 'hysterical'.

I'd put real money behind that being exactly what it is. Men are fucking catty when they want to be. They just call it something else to cover it up. Same way they don't own up to their 'dominating with dick' porn being rape fantasy.
