See, I'm a guy, and I'd rather be in a fandom that's primarily female than one that's primarily male. (Given those two choices, that is. In practice, I find a nice mix is healthy.)

Women in fandom don't turn everything into a dick-measuring contest. They don't hold grudges in the same way (though they DO hold grudges) and they don't make me ashamed of my gender as much. There's less self-conscious, desperate gender performance in female fandom spaces, and they're not afraid to talk about characters AS characters.

Shit, there's a reason I'm hanging out here there days, you know?

Yeah, agreed. The male side of the MGS fandom is an excellent example of that. They're so caught up in their dickwaving and "raaah Big Boss is so manly" they they completely fucking miss what the games are even about.

And I don't mean they miss some subtextual, deep, thematic element, I mean they miss important plot points that are blatantly stated multiple times.

The female side, on the other hand, seem to genuinely care about the characters and story. They don't care about the gameplay as much as I'd like, but it's better than completely confusing two of the main characters and shit like that.

I admit I haven't seen much of "male spaces" but if a few porn fics I have read that I know are written by males has anything to show for it, male porn fantasies are all "All the girls want my epic dick!".

Dick-measuring in pornfic form, I'd say.

I want fics with both a good adventure plot, as well as interesting personal relationships between the characters(The relationships don't have to be romance either, though I do love a good romance fic too). I see that more often on the female side.
