Both types of fandom can be fun, and both have assholes, imho. I have little tolerance for cttiness, but I also have little tolerance for some teen fanboys in games fandoms. What I came to realize that to me it has more to do with age than with gender, and I just hate immature bickering.

There's plenty of women who fit the description you made of men here. They're not even that hard to find. I think you're being a teeny tiny bit prejudiced here.

Oh god yes, AGE very much is the deciding factor for me, not gender. Teen boys are a different sort of asshole than teen girls, generally, but they're both such chores to put up with anyway. They grow out of it, mercifully, most of us did, but I don't feel any need to hang around putting up with their bullshit until they do.

And a few times it's been AGE IN FANDOM more than actual chronological age. I cut a middle-aged mother of two from my Flist because I just couldn't stand her catty better-than-other-fans attitude anymore, and a freaking pharmacist who acted like the worst kind of whiny passive-aggressive stalker. They both entered fandom rather later in life than most of the people I hang with.
