...but didn't the GTA series have 2 black leads already? I don't see how having another non-white lead would be "controversial." A woman as the lead would definitely cause a shitstorm though.

There's been several POCs throughout the series, actually!

CJ (San Andreas) and Franklin (GTAV) are both African-American (from predominantly and historically black neighborhoods in a fictionalized Los Angeles.)

Victor (Vice City Stories) and Luis (Ballad of Gay Tony) are Dominican-American.

Huang Lee (Chinatown Wars) is Chinese-American.

You're right, though, it's not as controversial as one might think -- but then again, these are games about criminal behaviour...
