You can put a thrift-store nightstand or whatever on the sidewalk and clean it/spray it with a natural bug killer and let it sit in the sun for a day. Probably not likely you'll get bedbugs from that (and you can see them, or their signs, so you can inspect for them before you buy).

As for haunted furniture...well - some salt and a little incense and sweep it down with a new broom, you're fine.
