Clearly you've never been called the prude at a bachelorette party -- or excluded from them entirely -- because you're not into strippers. Or ended up sitting alone at a club because the friends you went with have all paired off either with their SOs or a new person they met there.

NA

Aaaand suddenly it's very quiet here. LOL.

NAYRT

I'm not demisexual in the least and those are problems I run into because I'm an introvert with social anxiety. There's a difference between being socially oppressed and being a social outlier; nobody's going to actually seek to harm you or me because we don't do the club/hookup scene well.

If you could all stop pretending anyone is claiming demisexuals are oppressed, this argument would be a non-issue.

Whoops, I interpreted the comment the wrong way, sorry about that. I rescind the second half of my comment, but I stand by the first half. Feeling a bit lonely and side-eyed is pretty standard for everyone who doesn't fit in the flirty social butterfly category.

No, I've been in those situations, or at least very comparable ones. I just don't think that's anywhere close to oppression, or anything that rises above the level of social awkwardness

You'll notice, I never said it was oppression. In fact, I quite clearly said it was NOT oppression. Find a new talking point.

Well, what the fuck are you trying to do, then, other than make people feel sorry for you for your apparently super sad and lonely life (that is like the life of every single other introvert in existence, because guess what, THAT'S WHAT YOU ACTUALLY ARE)?

NAYRT, but I guess I should give you credit for including the word "apparently" in your description of super-sad and lonely lives of introverts, but then your parenthetical statement kind of undid it.

Introverted and happy here. Neither super-sad, nor lonely (nor oppressed, before anyone asks). But thanks for the faux sympathy.

Seriously? Seriously, though? I mean, sure, it can be "lonely" to be that one in a group of friends not to get the hype over anything.

But.

1. not everyone, "demisexual" identity or otherwise, is attracted to a stripper. Women (and men) aren't attracted to everyone they meet, aren't necessarily into showcase sex like strippers, etc. Not having an instant orgasm over a stripper does not make you unique.

2. not everyone meets people at clubs, too. You sitting alone at a club is not a circumstance unique to people who call themselves "demisexual".

Sorry if I'm being picky, but I can literally not think of a single circumstance in which a "demisexual" individual would feel disadvantaged that isn't also applicable to "non-demisexual" people. Because the implications that "normal" people are always thinking about sex with strangers or whatever is just nonsense.

Those just... aren't problems. I have something that's more of a problem. I really hate noodles. I just do. I don't know why, I was born that way. My friends always want to go out for spaghetti or lasagna, and I end up being unhappy and hungry. And my friends always act so shocked, asking how I can not like noodles.

That's how I feel when demisexuals talk about their "problems" except I legitimately feel that my problem is much bigger. I think I need a label.
