I loved it when she stood up to the 'white privilege' bs about her dying grandmother

I'm glad the show stopped centering on Piper this year but I'm also glad that she's stopped being a nice little girl and has become a woman. A strong, genuinely tough woman who doesn't take (too much) shit. Age ain't nothin' but a number.

Ahh, I'm so conflicted about that scene! On the one hand, I can understand how to basically everybody in that prison, it seemed like it was either sexual favors or white privilege that secured Piper's furlough. I mean, what else are they supposed to think? Furlough is supposed to be all but impossible to get, and their own requests to see their dying parents or the birth of a child were all denied. What else were they supposed to think?

But on the other hand, Piper's grandmother is a person, regardless of her skin color, and her impending death is sad. In a supportive community, everyone should have been happy that Piper was given a chance to say goodbye to her, even though they never received the same chance to see their own loved ones. I think Sophia came closest when she lamented not being able to see her father before he passed away, but then admitted to Piper, "But grandmothers are important, too." So, I was glad that Piper stood up against the outcry over her furlough, because the anger shouldn't be directed at her, but at the administration. But at the same time, gosh, their anger was understandable. Piper could've expressed a little more regret that she's received so much when everyone else has gotten so little, but that would have gone against her inner entitlement, so... yeah.
