Text game thread from yesterday

(Anonymous) 2014-06-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I missed this discussion and wanted to add on some other suggestions for the OP!

Emily Short's work (site notes online availability, difficulty):

Adam Cadre's work (same as above. Lock & Key is one of my favorites):

Violet, by Jeremy Freese -- You promised your girlfriend that you would write 1000 words in your dissertation by the end of the day. She narrates your actions. You distract yourself a lot. (default is male but you can type "female" or "heteronormativity off" :p) Direct link to game:

How do I play Violet? I don't see anywhere to type. @_@

ayrt -- Hm. If you got the opening blurb ("Calm down..."), then (making sure your game window is your active window), hitting any key should bring up the title and rest of intro, with a prompt line following. Did anything show up on your screen?

Yeah, nothing's happening. Oh well. :(

ayrt -- Found a Flash version at Jay Is Games, in case it's the Parchment interpreter, if that might work better:

(I like JIG, but the ads can be distracting, especially for a text game... about not being distracted.)

That one works! Thank you!

OP of the thread from yesterday!

Thanks! I haven't seen any of these either.

ayrt -- You're welcome! Though, a caveat that maybe you've discovered already -- since I got the urge to (re)play some of the games, I realized that some of the links to online stuff are down (all in Adam Cadre's list so far, which has older games programmed primarily for offline play). :( Sorry about that.

I didn't see yesterday's thread but...the Choice Of games are awesome [Choice of Broadside is completely free, you can play as male/female straight or not]. The other games are pretty good too.

ayrt -- I've loved the Choice of... games I've played! Wow, they really expanded their catalog. I've only played the dragon, zombie, and vampire one. Thanks! :)

Yeah! A lot of that is because they're letting people make their own game and sell it under their site/label.

If you like history there's one that's currently in the middle of being made that the creator posted a link to in the forums [It should come up if you google "Choice of Rome", iirc] that's pretty awesome!
