I'm not the OP, but I'd assume they would expect another Japanese person to value their own culture. Whereas ... I've seen a weird mix of hostility towards weeaboos and hostility towards Japan in the way Americans shame other Americans for being enthusiastic about foreign media. You can't always tell if they're bashing because "this fannish behavior sucks" or because "this Japanese thing Americans are fans of is total trash." There's overlap. Sometimes a lot of overlap. And I think the defensiveness in these threads should tell you something about people not being entirely unaware of the overlap. They're just awfully defensive about it.
