6. Can't you enjoy the series without participating in fandom?
It's not very difficult :\
I mean, before the widespread use of the internet, lots of series would not have had fandom, so if you can't read/watch a series without participating in fandom, what the hell did they do back then?
I didn't have the internet myself not that long ago and had to enjoy anime series and manga series on my own, no-one else knew about them, yet I still was able to enjoy them without fandom.
YOU DON'T FUCKING NEED FANDOM TO ENJOY A SERIES OR WHATEVER. Jesus Christ, if the fandom is shit just ignore it and stay away. >:[

6. Well, I always join the fandom of a series I like, because for me it's no fun enjoying the series without someone to talk to about it. In this case, the fandom forced inextricable weird connotations on aspects of the series I used to enjoy. That, and the batshit of the fandom made me realize the series themselves just weren't worth it.

I don't hate the fandom or the series, really, but I'm just seriously god damn sick of them.

As a 40-year-old who was a fic-writing, fanart-drawing fangirl of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, various real-live rock stars, and Anne Rice's vampire books back in the pre-Internet fandom days, IAWTC.

I knew about "Trekkies" back in the '70s, but I never encountered other fandoms until I got online in 1998. That's probably why I have no trouble being a fan without participating in fandom, even now.
