There's no way some freakin' 20 something is going to say "EUREKA, I CURED CANCER" especially if they are still heavily involved in fandom.

Erm, yeah, I think that's the point. The OP is saying, "Stop screwing around in fandom, you're old enough to go do something important with your life. Like cure cancer."

I think so, anyway. Not saying that's right, though. *is a 20 something* :P

Yes, but I'm a 20-something, and doing worthwhile work as a librarian, and I'm still involved in fandom. There's no reason for fandom and worthwhile work to be mutually exclusive. One can't possibly use every hour of every day "curing cancer" (or encouraging children's literacy [like I do] or what have you). Even the best doctors, scholars, and researchers take pleasure in things outside of their fields. Fandom is what I do for fun outside of my field.

The OP seems to be more insulted by being put down because of his or her age and thinks we should leave fandom to the next generation, when, really, there's no need for us to do anything like that. We can "curse cancer" and stay in fandom.

"Curse cancer"--we can do that too, but we ought to try and cure it, really.
