25. You're not a bad friend just for liking the show. However, frequently bringing it up in front of your friend despite knowing she might have issues with a show that treats suicide as a joke seems pretty insensitive, and caring more about the show than your friend, uh, well...

36. This secret is awesome. Those books were such a huge part of my childhood (well, my later-childhood-to-early-adolescence), and for years I really believed, or wanted to believe, that they were true. (Which in retrospect is pretty strange given that... life wasn't so great in the world of the books, especially towards the end of the series, but this apparently didn't occur to me at the time... or else I didn't care.)

I think that's how it is with a lot of fandoms. XD We love Animorphs, but living in the Animorphs world would sure suck, I love Princess Tutu but most of the main characters are orphans because of how chaotic the magic is in their world, in Lord of the Ring's world I'd have to be worried about my village being invaded by orcs...it's too bad, really XD

That's true -- I love a lot of things that I wouldn't necessarily want to be real. Conflict is what makes a story interesting, but it's not really the sort of thing we want in our real lives. And I guess when you're a kid you don't really think about the actual ramifications of living in your fantasy world -- you just go "oh, it would be so cool if I could turn into different animals and maybe save the world!"

(And on a random side note, Princess Tutu is awesome. ♥)

Yeah, that's true. ...Only vaguely related, bu I remember one scene in the books where Rachel (I think) says that said that if Disney showed a girl turning into a bear, it'd probably be pretty and extremely magical to watch, but in the actual Animorphs world itself it was groteque and painful. ...Really, that was one cool thing with the books, they weren't afraid to be like "Come on, your bones are changing and twisting into another animal's bones, it's not going to be pretty!"

(You like Animorphs and Princess Tutu, and you have an english-language humor icon? Awesome! ♥)

Yeah, it definitely didn't pull any punches.

(Aww, thanks! You seem pretty awesome yourself. ... we're using the word "awesome" kind of a lot, huh.)

(Well, 'awesome' is a rather awesome word.)

(Awesome is awesomely awesome! ... okay now it's starting to not look like a word anymore.)

It's just something that comes up. We'll make a joke, or say, "Oh, that reminds me of something," or laugh because it reminds us of it. And then she'll ask what it's from, since we share anime/manga and the jokes are a regular part of our routine. And we get quiet and feel guilty, because her fiancee just stews at us. She's never said it bothers her, and even watched the first episode with no prompting. But her fiancee (who is the type who 'makes most of the decisions'/'does most of the talking') gets offended on her behalf, and then my friend gets quiet, too.

I think her fiancee makes her feel guilty that the show doesn't automatically make her think of her dad now (she wasn't close to her father - he was in a mental institution because he tried to kill her more than once), and so she feels bad about it.
