Excuse the shameless Yoshiki fanboying

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-01 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
But you MUST learn more. This is one of the founding people of the entire idea of vk, and his drumming and piano are some of the very best you can find, at least among rock musicians. Kurenai, Silent Jealousy. . . MANY more. So yeah, he's like the best fucking drummer in Jrock, one of the WORLD'S best drummers, and the founder of vk itself who helped bankroll Gackt at least once, and he gets blamed for Gackt's crap? THAT'S why I'm so fucking mad.

Alright! To the internet to become Yoshiki obsessed! XD

Gackt's ego is out of control. He gets a big name for himself as an insane vocalist, and suddenly he can do no wrong. Any time someone gets to a stage like that, it's just... not gonna be good. Mainly for them. So cut it out, Gackt. And stop being a loser. And blaming others for your own problems. Fool.

Re: Excuse the shameless Yoshiki fanboying

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-12-02 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
XDDDD If you want to see the man himself, it's myspace.com/yoshiki.

And yeah. Gackt's ego IS his primary problem, his fans feed it and encourage it, and he's becoming a crappy prima donna singer. Breaking up Malice Mizer was one thing, he did pretty well on his own after that, but breaking up SKIN, where Yoshiki likely only brought him in out of wanting to save his career? BAD. "I hope you see pink spiders kicking your ass in your dreams" bad.

Oooh cool! I'm already listening to 'without you' on the piano. It's sooo pretty! How many drummers can play the piano so fantastically and beautifully? I'm really starting to like him XD

Yeah. There is no excuse for Gackt. I mean, really. The band isn't that old. Why do you need to by so tyrannical about something that should be fun? I think it's just a Napoleon complex because he's so much shorter than everyone else in the band XDDDD I actually like some of his solo stuff. And it isn't so annoying when he's a diva, because at least he can't harm anybody else. But acting like that in band when you aren't as hot as you think you are just isn't right.

He's a piano virtuoso. He's actually played classical and rock both for it, as well as being one of the greatest drummers of all time. I hope something notes him in musical history in general outside of Jrock, since he deserves recognition for his achievements. . . ^_^

Yeah. I still have Mervilles by Malice Mizer as one of my favorite albums (it's how I got into Jrock, in fact, hearing a song from it), and a ton of Gackt's solo stuff on my playlist. It was all pretty good until the wheels totally came off late 05-early 06. And he hasn't seemed to even notice that Something Is Very Wrong, even when he's started lipsynching performances despite a vow never to do so.

It's so unfair that so many awesome artists don't get any attention just because they aren't involved in Western music. A drummer who can also play the piano like that is worthy of mention no matter where he's from. But I feel like a lot of the really talented Japanese musicians (and maybe other Asian musicians too) don't get attention for their achievements, just because they're Japanese. It's too bizarre.

I did't really like Malice Mizer all that much. They're a little too intense for me XD But I do like Gackt's solo stuff, because it's not so... industrial, maybe? It's just more fun XD 'Redemption' and 'Vanilla' are two of my favorites.

He needs someone to point this out to him, and let him know that he's kinda going down a slippery slope here. Because it can only get worse if he keeps wrecking himself like this.

Indeed. I mean, hide so needs to be recognized as one of the greatest guitarists ever. I mean, he's fucking better than Eric Clapton, I'd argue (though you may disagree) better than Slash (the guitarist, not the stories, yes please more slash stories forever ^_^), and the only people who really know about him are Jrock fans?

And seeing that Yoshiki will likely be the same thing (loved in Japan, barely on the radar anywhere else) makes me sad.

Intense is my thing. Though Melt Banana is a bit annoying to me. ~_^ So even I have my limits. Malice Mizer? Yes. Dir en grey? YES. X Japan? VERY YES. Melt Banana? MY EARS MELTED STFU PLZ MELT BANANA.

And who DOESN'T like Vanilla? Mmm, Gackt can has yaoi time now.

The problem is there's no one who CAN point it out to him. The fans keep buying, keep loving, keep defending. Yoshiki probably tried to point it out to him, but probably got ignored, and yeah. Gackt's in a down spiral right now, and I'm mostly just still watching to see what kind of trainwreck he and his fandom become. Is he going to commit seppuku on the imperial palace steps? Is he going to run for office or start his own religion? Is he going to have a total breakdown on stage? What next from the king of crap?

Re: Excuse the shameless Yoshiki fanboying

And the horrible thing is, you can't spread the word about awesome musicians, because as soon as people find out you're into jrock, you're an otaku and should be ignored at once, because your dorky opinions might be contagious. They ARE contagious, because they're VALID! Just because I like a culture outside of my own doesn't mean I don't have taste. Psh.

I want more Miyavi love. Boy plays the guitar like a fiend. And he's still mostly an unknown. AND THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM! So many amazing musicians! It's depressing, is what it is.

I like the lighter, more traditional rock stuff myself. Miyavi, L'Arc, Ore Ska Band, High and Mighty Color, Beat Crusaders- Sort of the border between vk and rock. But I also am just not as versed in so many of the awesome bands! No one buys vk CDs for me, because they see them on my Amazon list and think that they're scary! XD So now I just need to sample more awesome bands. Though now I know not to touch Melt Banana with a forty-foot pole. Yez indeed.

And who DOESN'T like Vanilla? Mmm, Gackt can has yaoi time now. Ooooh yez. I had this song for AGES before I actually looked up the translation online. "lol lookit all this! I had no idea this perky song was so smutty! I guess I should stop singing it in public places where I could possibly scandalize some poor Japanese person."

The problem is there's no one who CAN point it out to him. It's true. He looks like he's seriously losing all sense of proportion. And it'll be interesting to see what happens. It's like a train wreck! Can't stand to watch, and CAN'T... LOOK... AWAY!

WORD. Nevertheless, I keep at it and encourage anyone who likes music to give it a chance. I mean, yes, the language barrier, but there's SO much more to music than the "oldies, emo, rap, and country-western" that dominates American music anymore.

Seriously, I laughed myself senseless at the guy playing "Rock Band" on one of the TVs in the university center, who was on drums and grumbling that there wasn't anything more challenging in the expert selections since it's true. I mean, Metallica? Dude, "Kurenai" or "Silent Jealousy" by X Japan would be one of the ultimate challenges for drumming. Four modulations in the latter song, oh yeah.

Though including them might not be a good idea, since Harmonix could be sued if drum players trying to best each other at it all ended up with real-life wrist braces like Yoshiki's.

^_^ Oh, I'd say you should try Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra, abingdon boys school, An Cafe, Maaya Sakamoto, Koda Kumi, and LM.C too. You'd likely love hide's solo stuff that he made before he died (with his bands Spread Beaver and Zilch), so check it out. Hyde (from L'Arc)'s solo stuff is also very good. I recommend Roentgen, 666, and the album version of Faith (Faith tour live had some issues with Hyde's vocals.) Also, Miho Hatori.

You probably wouldn't like Dir en grey past the Six Ugly era (once they left vk).

Oh yeah. I just hope he DOESN'T go the suicide/seppuku route, since he's got such a "devoted" fan following, and in his case, there's no one who'd be able to do what Yoshiki did after hide died and tell people to stay calm and honor his memory in other ways than suicide.

WORD. Nevertheless, I keep at it and encourage anyone who likes music to give it a chance.

well then you're stronger than I am. After the first few weird looks and a few of the "Japanese music? you're into that kind of stuff?" comments, I've mostly given up, except among my friends.

there's SO much more to music than the "oldies, emo, rap, and country-western" that dominates American music anymore.
it's true! And the variety is AMAZING! you just have to look for it! Seriously, I didn't listen to much music that wasn't from the 80's or handed to me by my parents, because the majority of what's on the radio is so boring. But then I got into jrock, and that oddly enough led to me getting into different modern music. Go figure.

AHAHAHAAHAHA. Genius. And I love it. Poor drummers. It's no subtlety, just beating the shit out of the set. Poor, poor drummers. Must get old after a while.

ah awesome! Now I have all these bands to check out! I already love AnCafe and abingdon boys school! I need to check out all the other ones on the list too. Sleep? Psh. Sleep is for the weak. I have some music to immerse myself in.

It's so strange to think of people killing themselves because a musician they love did. I'd be sad if someone I idolized died, but I don't think it could drive me into that kind of despair. That's some intense feeling right there.

It's not strength, it's not pushing my stuff on or toward others, but not pretending I don't care about it either.

(as an aside, I knew I'd never work as "normal," so I've decided to pick the option of "carve out my own place and tell the haters to fuck off" both online and offline. would it be a fandom secret to say that by inspiring me to do that, hide has saved my life? Guess it's no secret now, but that's made me happier, that I can live as weirdly as I want and unless I'm endangering myself or breaking the law.)

Indeed. I'd so love to see someone try "Kurenai" on expert mode, if it was an option in the game. Just to watch them flail and finally be beyond the three saves, or to see someone who could approach that level of awesome. ^_^

Agreed. I don't think I could see myself killing myself over a musician (though I can kind of sympathize with the hide fen who did, since hide was so much more than music at the time, he was the symbol of breaking conformity and being free in Japan, and losing that, OUCH. I mean, as someone who has a really deep affinity to him now. . . yeah, suicide is bad but I could see why someone already disturbed would go "wow, it really is hopeless to break out" and copycat thinking it was a suicide -which it wasn't, IMO-, and that IS why I love Yoshiki so much: he had the strength even in his grief to tell people that suicide isn't what hide would have wanted, to control themselves, and to push for the death to be re-labeled an accident.)
