Oh and see my "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS" post on my LJ. In which I link to a metric fuckton of Gackt-related bullshit from dears. Someone is actually claiming Gackt healed her cancer (though now she's crediting herbs) and I think she's got to be smoking some herb.

This is why I stay out of the jrock/pop fandoms in general. You get some reeeeeally crazy people in there. brrr.

L'Arc and X Japan are pretty good fandoms so far, at least compared to Gackt's. Yes, the tradeoff is that L'Arc and X fandoms both have a ton of wank and drama, but the wank and drama is often a good thing in that you see both sides and you know what side you want to be on.

If this person had posted to larcenciel, for example, that listening to "Kiss" had cured her cancer, maybe some very batshit fans would have jumped on board, but then some of us would have called bullshit and demanded evidence or at the very least gone "I don't think that can happen."

Sure, it may lead to wank, but sometimes wank's better than "oh we must not be negative."

L'arc just seems more mature and AT THE SAME TIME more fun than Gackt, so I'll make a huge horrible generalization and say that the wank must be similarly of a better quality XDDDD

I only have one L'arc~En~Ciel CD (Ready Steady Go- it was a present from a relative who knew I liked jrock and saw it listed on Amazon as 'THE ULTIMATE JROCK CD EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSE'. and it turns out that the list was right, because it's AWESOME!)

wank is a lot of fun to watch. But too much of it going uncorrected just gets depressing.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. But usually both sides have somewhat of a point, and I've never seen the entire fandom dogpile someone (hell, even someone proclaiming an album sucks when it doesn't) without very good cause (e.g. the Anime News Network reviewer who trashed on Hyde's voice in the Live In The USA DVD did get his e-ass handed to him by a couple of fans. . .)

I LOVE L'Arc. Their new album Kiss is awesome (except for the Christmas song, just WHY the fuck did they do that). Awake is pure awesomesauce, as was Smile, as was almost every album they've made.

They are more fun than Gackt, most definitely. ^_^

Agreed, and I don't like being a part of it. However, I see wank as inevitable and as a gauge of how healthy a fandom IS, sort of like expressing anger is a gauge of how healthy and capable of coping a person is. If a person never, ever seemed to get angry at ANYTHING, I'd not see them as totally zen, I'd see them as trouble waiting to happen someday when it all boiled over. In the same way, I see a totally wank-free and even negativity without wank-free fandom as a place that's not very healthy.

On the other hand, if people can express negativity with the source material or disappointment with it, and yes, even if there's the occasional wank war between people who disagree, I see it as a healthy fandom where discussion and debate and dissension ARE allowed and people aren't expected to be the Borg.
