That's just blatantly not true, I was quite active in that fandom at the time and the Kurtofsky ship positively exploded right after the kiss, which was waaay before he got his shit together. Now, obviously I do not have concrete data on how many people that was percentually, but I'd say it was the second most popular slash ship after Klaine.

I was active in the fandom too, and I wasn't trying to say that people only started to ship them after he apologized.

Yes, the ship started after the kiss. But that doesn't mean the shippers actually wanted them to get together while Karofsky was still bullying Kurt, or that they thought the bullying was okay. They wanted Karofsky to overcome his self-loathing, redeem himself, and earn Kurt's forgiveness first.

That's precisely right. It was a forgiveness/redemption arc and full of great dramatic potential. No one I knew romanticized the bullying.
