I just like the pretty pictures and think the different ways of making those pictures move is really cool. :P Judge me if you want but as someone who draws, being able to properly animate is amazing.
It's like looking at paintings. And yeah, live action can play with lighting and special effects but it's not the same. Who Framed Roger Rabbit is as silly and shallow a movie as you get but from a technical standpoint it's a work of genius. I appreciate all the time and effort that is put into animation (even computer animation done properly takes a lot of time and effort.)
It's about the art for me, and if the story is cute and makes me laugh than that's a plus. (though Watership Down and The Last Unicorn are certainly not fluff, nor is a lot of anime. Satoshi Kon gives Albert Hitchcock a run for his money in Perfect Blue.)
