Well that's still good! I feel the same kind of positivity and inspiration from the movie too!

It's so upbeat and earwormy, so I can't help but bob my head along to it whenever I listen to it. It's a happy song! :D Bask in the happy!

It's okay to genuinely like silly things, you know.

I'd rather listen to this song on repeat than any song from Frozen.

High five!

Why are you bringing up Frozen??

I have a 7 year old who watches Lego Movie, Frozen, and Monster High on a loop. My summer has been super fun.

Could be worse! Equestria Girls could be in there.

If you unclenched about Frozen already it'd disappear from your life faster y'know

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
sounds like your butthurt at someone not thinking Frozen's songs are the end all be all

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
nah, just tired of people bringing Frozen into stuff that was not remotely related to it.

It would....if I didn't have a 7 year old who plays Frozen, Lego Movie, and Monster High Fright's Camera Action on a loop. I'd also rather listen to Everything is Awesome more than any Monster High song.

I was surprised at how good this movie was.

Pfft! I love that song! It's just so genuinely happy. Sure it's fluff, but something doesn't have to be ~deep~ and ~introspective~ in order for it to be good or even for you to like it. Look at a lot of the songs from the 50's and 60's. The majority of 'popular' music from that era wasn't deep. It was catchy and feel-good.

Thank you for reminding me I need to watch this. It looks (for lack of a better word) awesome. (Also, I have a feeling the song is probably genuinely amusing and good, and there's nothing wrong with it. Plus, anything that makes you happy! As long as you find inspiration I don't think it particularly matters where it came from.)

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
It has a whole middle section which is pretty much about how even bad things - losing a job, or common things - a string, can be awesome if you look at it from the right angle.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-23 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
There's no problem with that OP, people find inspiration from the strangest places and 'Everything Is Awesome' is pretty great and super catchy.

I do just want to make the point that the song isn't just a joke or a throwaway pop song in the movie - the song and implicitly all music in the main character's universe was used as a form of social control. The movie actually had quite a few dark underlying messages, which I think is one of the reasons it was so popular with both kids and adults.

It's upbeat and happy, no shame in liking that. :)

Sorry, I'll be the spoilsport here and mention that I found this song incredibly irritating by the end of the movie, but! If it inspires you then quite frankly that's great. :)

haha, same. It's not horrible, but yeah. I was ready to stop hearing it.

I've had 2 Katy Perry songs get me through some dark moments in my life. The things that mean a lot to you and cheer you up are rarely what you expect.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Actually I love this song too and it also has a very uplifting effect on me...

I was quite surprised to like the movie as well: not as preachy as it sounded like based on rumors, with a positive but not obvious point, which I liked.

But in truth, I just like that song!

PS: I like The Lego Movie (and this hilarious, ridiculous song) for exactly the same reasons I disliked Frozen and its pretentious main song. Hm. Maybe we should do a survey and see if most people who liked the one disliked the other and vice-versa or whether it's just a few weirdoes like me?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-24 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen both and liked the Lego Movie better. Granted, I saw Frozen once and the Lego Movie twice, but still. If someone asked me if I wanted to watch either, I'd pick the Lego Movie without hesitation. Frozen was good, but the Lego Movie was great.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-30 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! I feel weird admitting it, but I loved the Lego Movie (I think I've seen it 3 times already and will probably re-watch it soon)! I love how it doesn't take itself seriously and is like one long, repeated breaking of the fourth wall... And how adorable is the Lego Batman, OMG! He works mostly in black! Or very, very dark grey, hee hee hee...

About Frozen, I guess I watched it without lots of expectations mainly because everyone was ranting and raving about how good it was and I tend to like most animated movies... But I felt vaguely uncomfortable at how stupidly all the characters were acting and I had trouble enjoying it even while watching all the moments when we were supposed to be laughing and afterwards I felt cheated for the time I spent watching it which I'll never get back.

Maybe I felt none of the Frozen characters were likeable and certainly there were none I could could empathize with or feel any concern for (I tend to have no tolerance and feel no pity for characters who behave stupidly, I admit). :(

Whereas I found ALL the Lego Movie characters really loveable (including President Business and Bad Cop): yes, part of it is the cuteness factor of the Lego figurines themselves, but most of it is due to the hilarious dialog and clever storyline which completely subverts the 'Chosen One' trope. I found this last very refreshing nowadays.

Plus, that song! :D
