Yeah, WTF is up with that?

It's Korean pop - if you're over 51 kg, you're considered fat. For example, Bekah, the rapper from After School. Gorgeous girl, charismatic, considered one of the better Korean rappers... And she had the misfortune to weigh 52 kg. She was called "chunky", "fat", and eventually forced out of the group due to not being as thin as the others (the thinnest girl is currently 45 kg, at 167 cm of height).

There was actually one girl (Ladies' Code's Sojung) who admitted she'd been anorexic thanks to the strict diet they kept her on. SNSD's Yuri became scarily thin while they were promoting "Hoot" - you could see the bones in her wrists.

And to top everything off, AOA's Jimin lost 5kg before their most recent comeback... Which means she weighs 41 kg and stands 160cm tall. Her bandmate Choa weights 42 kg at the same height.

That's... um, really not healthy. I'm 52 kg and 162 cm, and I'm fucking skinny! Knowing that there are places in which I would be considered "fat" is absolutely horrifying to me, poor girls. How can anyone have a good self-image in that kind of culture?

While I absolutely agree on the insanity of the culture they're in and with the gist of your comment, I would like to point out that some people can be healthy at weights that would make other people with different body types, well, dead. My sister is 165 cm tall and 45 kg, a friend of mine is 170 and 48, I'm 168 and 49, none of us is remotely close to being unhealthy! Then my girlfriend is 175 and 70, and I'm pretty sure that at 65 she'd be dead. Different people with different body types.

Good point, and you're totally right. I suppose it became personal because I'm less than average weight and the idea that that would be considered big just seems so wrong from where I'm standing. Still, your comment is true. Thanks! :~)
