Basically any fandom needs less

- shipping wars
- people who harass actors, and do things like send them fanfic or porn of themselves.
- people who think their headcanon is gospel truth.

I never got shipping wars, and I was in a fandom notorious for them. (But then, maybe that's just it - two minutes into the fandom I was sick of them!)

And ew, people harassing actors and sending them stuff like that... that's annoying. I mean, a website I belonged to DID send a bunch of short fics, letters and fanart to JK Rowling, but it was all pretty tame and none of it was along the lines of "this must be canon!" (She never responded. My guess is she either never got it or was a bit bewildered... )

I love shipping wars tbh. They're so fun to watch and the lengths people will go to prove their ship is totally canon is nothing short of hilarious.

This. Especially now that there's tumblr tags instead of moderated communities, so anybody can say whatever crap they want all over the tags and spam people easily.

It can be awesome, but only if a) you're not in the fandom, b) you have no opinion or stake in the war or the characters involved in it, or c) have hit the fandom nirvana state of IDGAF bliss:

I'm in between "getting me down" and "I hate everyone right now", lol. That is the truest graph I've ever seen.

This is so true. Though I've never been in a ship war. All the fandoms I've been in that have the BIG wars? I usually started liking one of the main pairs really really late in the game, after everything pretty much died down. Like Harry/Hermione and Zuko/Katara.

Though I GUESS you can say I sorta was in one when it came to Star Trek. I ship old school!Kirk/Spock, but in Nu!Trek, I've always shipped Kirk/Bones, McCoy/Uhura, and to an extent, Spock/Uhura.

But eh.

But that info graph so describes my thing with MLP. Though I haven't quite reached Nirvana with it yet.

I've seen shipping wars descend into full-blown bullying. When that happens, it stops being fun.

Barely. I have watched some but my exposure to that fandom is pretty much via my friends.

Yup, removing those would be a three-step program to improving fandom for everyone. ESPECIALLY the harassment. So horrible and creepy.
