Re: Stuff you could stand to see less of in your fandom

I wish the ratio of twee to thoughtful writers would reverse itself.

Less ship warring would be nice and less dragging in RL social justice issues as weapons in those ship wars.

Less black and white thinking in general.

Oh god. Social justice as a weapon in ship wars. I feel this so hard. It seriously, seriously needs to end.

social justice issues as weapons in those ship wars.

Ugh yes. This always makes me roll my eyes because guys, you so do not ship that ship because of ~social justice~ you ship it because you like it. And you know what? IT'S FINE TO JUST LIKE IT.

Unfortunately, it probably won't die away because it has been going on since pretty much the genesis of fandom -- you should see how many veiled or unveiled accusations of homophobia kept cropping up towards non-slash in old fandoms back in the '80s. Granted, there was quite a lot of genuine homophobia towards slash too so it wasn't totally off the mark, but so many slashers would snidely paint all non-slash fans -- and even non-slash fics by fans who wrote both slash and non-slash -- as being homophobic as well as "timid" and "prudish" and "deluded" and "afraid of confronting the truth."

What's a twee writer? Honest question.

Not quite sure what ayrt intended, but based on the meaning of "twee", I would suppose deliberate cutesyness for the sake of being cutesy.
