Doctor Who: "Handlebars"

A really well-made vid with a PERFECTLY chosen song...it encapsulates everything that bothers me about Ten and his era. Ack.

I like this one, but I think I first saw it around the same time I saw an Iron Man vid to the same song, and I just liked it so much more that I always forget the DW one exists.

Huh, I haven't seen the Tony vid.

I had the opposite reaction: I liked the Iron Man one, but compared to the DW one, I think it felt rather simplistic and not very creative, and doesn't do as good a job of conveying the point of the song -- which is about all the myriad different things, good and bad and harmless and neutral and devastating, the singer CAN do...if and when he decides to, since he has so many talents and so much power. For example, the ramp up at the end about shooting missiles/hitting targets/ending the world in the Iron Man vid is mostly just a bunch of Tony's own explosions, which don't end the world. In the DW it's all about showing the things the Doctor's enemies do while comparing/contrasting them to the things he does, to show how similar they could be capable of being.

Mostly just a matter of different goals, I think -- the Iron Man one is more narrative/what if, while the DW one is more meta/character study. And different canon mediums -- a movie with a single plot vs 4 seasons of a show with numerous different settings.

I love that song and I love that video. Though that side of Ten only bothers me when it's not acknowledged, which is like 50/50...

discrediting Harriet Jones -> ??? (seriously, fuck you Ten)
cracking jokes in light of a man's death -> banishment and the creation of Torchwood -> events of Doomsday
killing the Sycorax's children -> Donna being rightly terrified of him -> ??? (it's all happy adventure times later because martha 'changed' him?)
life imprisonment for the Family of Blood -> ??? (oooookay then)
all the shit with the Master -> Martha going 'peace out'
Timelord Victorius -> Adelaide Brooke correcting the timeline via suicide

ETA: Also I first heard this song while watching <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tvq2MjZ7PPE>this Merlin vid</a>.

I think the Family of Blood stuff was acknowledged, by the text, even if karma didn't smack him for it (it doesn't always smack everyone)...though it probably contributed to the whole motive behind the River Song thing later on.

and this is why the only season of Ten's that I rewatch is the one with Donna. I feel like she was the one who actually DID HER JOB consistently, namely buck him up when he's in the pits AND stop him short when he starts going all...all...yeeeeeah. It's like the worst darkest parts of Seven, but then he always seemed to regret the nasty things he thought were necessary. (now Ten and ACE, that would have been an interesting team-up!)

Ace would bully poor Ten. )
