Yes. The current government was trying to pass sedition laws. She thought it was a good idea because, "People shouldn't be allowed to say bad things about the government, that's disrespectful!"

It was part of a ~counter-terrorism~ bill, which was basically, "We don't like all these brown refugees coming over from Iraq and Afghanistan due to the war we happily participated in, they're all Islamists. Iiiiislaaaamiiiiiists! Haha what does asylum mean".

So yeah, we stopped being friends in pretty quick order. That was about nine years ago now. It wasn't just that we supported opposite sides of the government, it was just... a fundamental incompatibility in how we see human rights. (And then she joined the youth wing of that political party anyway, so hey! I escaped early.)
