No, that's the thing; Tom Cruise makes this movie WORK. At the beginning Tom's character is a deplorable douchebag and boy howdy does Tom sell it. But then character development happens and you actually believe that he's become likeable.

I am fully willing to admit that Cruise can be a hella fine actor (even though I couldn't remember the last time I saw a good film he was in before... EoT), but I can also understand how people might still turn away from a movie due to the Cruise Factor. The man is vile.
