I want to see a 'monopoly fic' in which a ship plays a game of Monopoly and end up trying to murder each other.

Now I do too.

or a scrabble fic where all the words on the board are meant to convey passive-agressive messages and/or flirtatious hints.

"you can't use 'buttsex', it's not in the dictionary!"

"Hastily rearranges into 'Subtext'."

oh, that's AWESOME.

Anagram FTW!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 10:25 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck how did I never notice that before???

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Loving the comments of people who didn't know butsex was an anagram of subtext - but it also makes me feel old. Ten years ago every second online journal (of any type) user had a "buttsex = subtext" icon, but not so these days. :(

Sounds about right for a Monopoly match.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I have seen at least one monopoly fic in the KnB fandom.
Let me see if I can find it again...

(Anonymous) 2014-06-25 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
i unironically want "settlers of catan" fic

like monopoly but way more cutthroat

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 12:56 am (UTC)(link)

Yes. I need this.

If you really want to get the murderous rage flowing, make it a Diplomacy game.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 08:37 pm (UTC)(link)
That is my go-to prompt whenever authors ask for writing ideas. I have yet to see a fic murderous enough to be what I'm looking for (apparently a lot of fic writers don't know Monopoly).

Shamefully, I must admit I wrote a truth or dare fic many years ago. it was G rated, which I'm guessing many of those types are not, and was for Yu-Gi-Oh. I tried to make it funny iirc. Humorously, the day after I posted it one of the people who commented on it posted their own T or D Yu-Gi-Oh fic, which was much more badly written and just plain weird than mine. I didn't know this was A Thing, actually - I've only ever seen ,like, two or three T or D fics ever.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Hehe, this all reminds me of the "Yami King of Uno" fic from back in the day ( which was one of the funnier YGO fics I ever came across)?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 12:29 am (UTC)(link)
Truth or Dare fics make* me sick to* no end OR JUST no end*, same* as Seven Minutes in Heaven and Closet Games [fic]*.

Sorry for being a nitpicker; if you're ESL or have problems with writing I definitely got the meaning of your secret so that wasn't a problem. I just wanted to point out that the phrase is 'to no end' (or 'no end', if you're even more pedantic than me), not 'for no end'. Also, remember to make sure your nouns agree with your verbs in number.

As for the content of your secret - sorry that gives you anxiety! I don't get it for T or D fics, but I get it for other things that make no sense to any one else just because it reminds me of something embarrassing I did, so you're no alone in feeling random anxiety from fics.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
When I read this secret I actually googled "sick for no end" to make sure it wasn't an idiom in some dialect that I'd never heard. Thank you for validating my confusion.

TBH the only time I've liked it is this one fic I found that was Toph+Zuko and it was the lying game that may or may not have turned into Truth or Dare. Never have I ever read a good one since.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Lol I love me some truth or dare/seven minutes in heaven and all it's cliche goodness in fanfic.

Can I ask why you dislike it so much? Do you have issues with the game itself? Or because it's so cheesy?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-29 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, is because in my fandom, this kind of fic is becoming more and more prevalent. Maybe because the fandom is full of teenagers...

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I've never run into any of those types of fics in my fandoms. I must just be lucky.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-26 07:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thankfully these fics are usually labelled and you don't have to read them! Just don't click on them. Problem solved. \o/
